Employee Engagement Trends for 2021

Although, we are halfway through 2021, using the collective experience of our teams, I am seeing trends emerge as what critical dimension remain at the forefront for employee engagement:

Strategy: Blending rewards and recognition with people and purpose to create the right team culture. Embracing the remote worker and leveraging home office technology and products as part of your operational strategy.

Leadership: Leaders are placing diversity and inclusion front and center within their organizations, in part to recognize and acknowledge their increasingly diverse workforce, but also because they are beginning to attribute positive business outcomes to it. DEI must be woven into the fabric of your organization. Multigenerational and geographic differences, a one-size-fits-all approach will no longer work for your employees.

Training & Education: Evaluating traditional roles, minimizing skill gaps, blending skillsets and using your employees as brand ambassadors has never been more important. The use of social media for the never generation of workers will be the search engine of preference for generations seeks a company with a strong cultural fit.

Technology: Internet of things… how can we use a holistic approach to connect our work to apps, automation, streamlining of business operations and communications.

Communication: 2020 has taught us how to connect in both the physical and digital worlds, as organizations continue to personalize their means of communication it will only strengthen the employee experience.

Engagement: The well-used phrase “redefining work/life balance” continues as we work to blend our lives back to “normal”. Wellbeing of employees will be an essential indicator of positive employee experience, and expansion of mental health benefits is on the horizon.

With the emotional highs and lows of 2020 behind us, I see leaders speaking from the heart, tapping into real situations when connecting with their workforce. This is resonating soundly with employees, and is deepening their loyalty.
